Acupuncture
Acupuncture is the therapy of inserting very fine needles into key positions in the body, to manipulate the body's vital energy. Acupuncture is part of Chinese medicine, a healing tradition that is
more than 3,000 years old. Acupuncture is a gentle way of helping the
body heal itself, and it is always focused on addressing each patient's
underlying causes of disease.
The
effectiveness of acupuncture has been proven through modern medical
research, and every day new studies confirm that acupuncture works. The World Health Organization, the U.S.
National Institutes of Health, and the insurance industry have all
recognized its safety and effectiveness.
Chiropractic
Chiropractic is America's most widely used
natural medicine practice. Professional athletes, championship teams,
celebrities, and hard-working people everywhere know it is remarkably
effective.
Chiropractic care focuses on helping patients achieve
correct physical alignment to relieve pain, restore function, and
maintain health. Through spinal adjustments and other gentle therapies,
doctors of chiropractic help correct structural problems that can cause
pain, weakness, and dysfunction in the nervous system.
Herbal Medicine
While acupuncture usually gets all the
attention, herbal medicine is a very important part of Chinese
medicine. For thousands of years, herbs have been one of the most
widely used treatments in China, particularly for internal medicine
problems - for example chronic menstrual pain, headaches, and digestive
problems.
Through the centuries, Chinese physicians have developed
treatments for a wide range of human ailments, including some of the
most difficult conditions faced today. All Chinese herbal formulas are
prescribed based on an individualized pattern diagnosis that changes as
the patient's condition changes. This makes Chinese herbal medicine
extremely safe and free of side effects.
Massage
Therapeutic massage is a growing part of American
medicine. It is among the oldest of human healthcare practices, and is
now being increasingly prescribed by doctors to complement other
treatments for illness, injury and pain.
Massage doesn't just feel good. It reduces the
heart rate and blood pressure, increases blood circulation and lymph
flow, relaxes muscles, improves range of motion and relaxes the mind.
There are many different styles of therapeutic massage,
some new and some very ancient. They all involve the manipulation of
the soft tissues of the body to prevent and alleviate pain, discomfort,
and muscle spasm. Some techniques are quite gentle and are often used
for stress relief. Others are more forceful and are used in helping the
body heal from serious injury and illness.
Naturopathic Medicine
Naturopathic medicine is
based on the understanding that the human body has an innate healing ability that can be assisted by natural methods.
Naturopathic doctors (NDs) teach their patients to use diet, exercise,
lifestyle changes and cutting edge natural therapies to enhance their
bodies’ ability to ward off and combat disease. Naturopathic physicians
craft comprehensive treatment plans that blend the best of modern
medical science and traditional natural medical approaches to not only
treat disease, but to also restore health.
Nutrition
Nutritional
therapy is a system of healing based on the knowledge that everything we eat is medicine, with a direct effect on our health. In many cases, the medicine we need to obtain and maintain a state of
health is our food is our medicine and our medicine is our food. Every health condition can be improved with proper nutrition, and a great many conditions can be treated
effectively with nutritional therapy.
Nutritional therapy is a
holistic discipline; nutrition as the key to good health is the all-embracing
fundamental principle used since the time of the famous Greek doctor and founder
of western medicine, Hippocrates, to help people of all ages to stay at their
personal peak of energy and vitality. Today, new insights of food scientists
play a significant role in the practice of nutritional therapy as preventative
medicine.
Yoga
Our yoga classes are therapeutic, not fitness-oriented. Designed for
beginners, these classes are very small (no more than 7 people), allowing
the instructor to provide individual feedback to each student.
During each 60-minute yoga class, the instructor will guide you in focusing
on the breath and using basic yoga poses to allow you to strengthen
muscles, improve skeletal alignment, and promote balance and
centeredness. The final 5 minutes of class include a deep relaxation
exercise that allows an integration of the stretches and breathwork.
Since the benefits of yoga are most noticeable when practiced
regularly, we also teach students to develop their home practice. You
will receive personal attention to help you reach a level of
proficiency that you can continue at home or at a public yoga class.
